The West End is Alexandria's largest and fastest-growing neighborhood. WIth easy access to I-395 and only eight miles from Downtown DC, it's no surprise the area is expanding so quickly and home to families and urban professionals alike. With the future redevelopment of Landmark Mall and other retail centers on the planning board, the West End is poised to continue its revitalization indefinitely.
Today, the neighborhood comprises four smaller areas with a variety of housing options to address different lifestyles: Landmark, Seminary West, Seminary Hill, and Lower Alexandria. Landmark is largely populated by high-rises and condominiums while gracious single-family residences are clustered along Seminary Road. Many of these older homes have recently been upgraded to meet modern standards, with high-end finishes including granite countertops and hardwood throughout. Bathrooms and master bedroom suites have also undergone expansion to provide more open floor plans.
The West End is close to a number of restaurants and shops as well as the site of historic landmarks such as the Fort Ward Museum (a Civil War-era Fort) and the Virginia Theological Society. The Port City Brewing Company is another popular attraction as is the Sunday Farmers Market.
Located west of Quaker Lane and just inside the the Capitol Beltway, The West End is served by the Van Dorn Metro Station on the Blue and Yellow Lines.
