See the National Christmas Tree
From dusk to 10 pm, the National Christmas Tree is illuminated, along with the Pathway of Peace. The lighting ceremony starts December 1st and the trees are illuminated throughout the entire month. The National Christmas Tree is a large evergreen tree located in the northeast quadrant of the The Ellipse near the White House. The pathway loops around the National Christmas Tree and features 56 unique Christmas trees to represent each U.S. state, U.S. territory, and the District of Columbia.
Go on a Candlelight Tour
Enjoy the /many historic homes by candlelight. Favorites include a tour of the Mount Vernon estate in Alexandria where you can learn about the Christmas traditions of George Washington and his family. Alexandria also hosts candlelight tours at five historic sites in Old Town -- all of which are festively decorated to celebrate the season.
