The Best of the Different in Washington DC
Sometimes you're looking for a different experience, but you can't quite put your finger on what you want. Here are three different options for fun in DC that are typically not in the guide books:
Polly Sue's
Named the "Best Place to Find a Party Hat" by the Washington City Paper, this store is located in Old Town Takoma Park, Maryland. Polly Sue's embodies the best of vintage in Washington D.C., with some of the best hats in the city. Whether you're after a vintage party hat, a great outfit for under $20 or a luxurious fur, you will find it here.
DC Skydiving Center
Most people come to Washington D.C. for the politics, history and opportunity the city offers. However, if you're a resident and you've always wanted to jump out of a plane, the DC Skydiving Center is the place for you. Located in in Warrenton, Virginia, the Center offers skydiving for first-timers and experienced jumpers. For $299 on the weekends you can jump from a plane after the 15-minute prep class. The staff is very experienced, including instructor, Chris Whitley, who has recorded more than 10,000 jumps.
Bits of Thread
Have you ever wanted to make your own clothing? With all the retail choices out there, it may seem silly, but Bits of Thread in Adams Morgan is a popular choice when it comes to making your own clothes. This sewing studio will teach you how to mend garments, work with patterns, create a fancy hat and more. They offer both public classes and private lessons, along with sewing machine rentals. If you want to learn how to sew, this is your place.
