Five Reasons to Love Arlington
There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with Arlington, but we’ve narrowed it down to five of the best.
Dog-friendly
To begin with, Arlington is dog friendly. Pet owners are sure to enjoy all the area dog-parks, including Shirlington, James Hunter, Towers, Utah, and Fort Ethan Allen. If you’re looking for a place for your dog to play in a fenced-in area with benches, water, and some shade, you’ll probably find it in Arlington. The area’s a past winner of the most dog friendly place in the country too, at least according to Yelp.
Proud military history
This part of Virginia also boasts a proud military history. Virginia, itself, is home to more than 117,000 active members of the military and more than two dozen military bases. Of course, Arlington is also home to Arlington National Cemetery, the nearby US Marine Corps War Memorial and the Military Women’s Memorial. The Pentagon is located in Arlington, too, which isn’t just the headquarters for the US Department of Defense, but also the largest office building in the world.
Amazing hiking trails
Not to be overshadowed. Arlington offers some pretty amazing hiking trails. The 17-mile-long Mount Vernon Trail offers some outstanding views of Arlington and DC. The trail connects up with some other trails, plus it’s simply a good spot for running, walking, or biking. The Mount Vernon trail passes through Lady Bird Johnson Park, plus there’s the option to explore Potomac Overlook Regional Park and Bon Air Park in Arlington.
Foodie dream
Arlington is also a foodie’s dream. There are all kinds of diverse places to grab a bite to eat. Whether you’re in the mood for ramen, burgers, pizza or pretty much anything else, you’ll probably find it in Arlington.
Bike-friendly
If you’d rather get out and about on two wheels, Arlington offers Capital Bikeshare. There are hundreds of bike stations that make it simple to go biking, even if you don’t own a bike, yourself.
