Barnaby Woods is a leafy neighborhood nestled between Rock Creek Park and Montgomery County, Maryland, in the northwest quadrant of Washington, DC. The area’s shady paths and mature trees are a serene backdrop for top ranked schools and what residents term a dog walker’s paradise because of the many parks and green spaces. Eminently walkable, the community is within walking distance of Rock Creek and Lafayette Parks, the Lafayette Elementary School, as well as the shops on Connecticut Avenue.
Entirely residential, the housing stock for the community includes largely 1930s brick Colonials with a few 1920s homes interspersed. Because of zoning laws, the houses are situated on unusually spacious lots for an urban setting and protect against future over-development. Many families have updated their homes to meet modern conveniences, including expanding the kitchens and creating more open floor plans with additional storage space.
The closet Metro Station to Barnaby Woods is Friendship Heights on the Red Line located approximately two miles away. Many residents swear by the Metrobus service or commute by car into Maryland or Virginia. Barnaby Woods is bounded on the north by Aberfoyle Place, on the south by Tennyson Street, to the east by Oregon Avenue and on the west by Western Avenue.
