Bates Real Estate

Bates is an up and coming triangular neighborhood sandwiched between P Street, NW and Florida Avenue in the northwest quadrant of Washington, DC.  It’s also known as East Shaw, Dunbar Shaw or Truxton Circle, but increasingly residents call it “Bates,” associating the community with the active Bates Area Civic Association.  The neighborhood is distinguished by two story row houses with brick facades, largely built in the 1900s.  The 1700 block of 4th Street features similar row houses that have been divided into two equally-sized units, as ordained by the infamous DC architect, Harry Wardman.  Sprinkled throughout are boutique condo buildings and vacant homes that are being modernized

In fact, Bates is known as an ideal location for young couples and professionals looking to find a home they can customize and settle into. The area’s close proximity to downtown adds further appeal.  Renovation is taking place all across the neighborhood.  The Florida Avenue Park, located on 1st Street, NW has blossomed into a popular destination for children and their families; after undergoing an extensive facelift.  Dunbar Senior High School has also recently been transformed into a open, modern campus after more than $100 million was pumped into renovations.

Residents can take advantage of the Metro Station and retail options in nearby Bloomingdale and Shaw.  Mount Vernon Square, is also nearby. The boundaries of the Bates neighborhood include Rhode Island Avenue to the north, P Street, 3rd Street and O Street to the south, Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street to the east,  and New Jersey Avenue to the west.
