Here's Why Clarendon is DC's Yuppiest Neighborhood

Last in 2014, Thrillist awarded Clarendon, Virginia, the dubious distinction of ranking it among "The Nine Yuppiest Neighborhoods in America." Thrillist defines "yuppies" as affluent young professionals who can afford to frequent the high-end retail haunts, such as Whole Foods, Starbucks and Lululemon, while keeping the luxury pet-grooming services in business as well. Yuppies vs. Hipsters Thrillist takes great pains to differentiate "yuppies" from hipsters -- those recent college ... Read More

Suburb in the City: American University Park

DC Urban Turf characterizes the American University Park neighborhood as “one of DC’s last frontiers” before the suburbs.  AU Park residents are more direct – they love the suburban feel of the neighborhood but with the cachet and convenience of a District address.  AU Park, true to its name, is near American University but few of the college’s buildings are actually located there.  The neighborhood extends from Massachusetts Avenue to the Sou... Here's How You Can Live in a Historic Space on Capitol Hill

Many of DC's most captivating real estate spaces on the market today are historic dwellings that have been uniquely repurposed for luxurious living.  The former Edmonds School, located on the corner of D Street, NE and 9th Street on Capitol Hill is one such example.  With its pitched roof and exposed brick, the school combines the charm of the original building with contemporary interiors, including dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows.  Designed in 1902 by noted Washington a... Alexandria Tops For Seniors

While Florida may be the obvious choice for early retirees at first blush, the Arlington/Alexandria, Virginia, area edged out Florida's major coastal cities as the most desirable locations for seniors. In fact, the only Florida city to make the Top Ten was Cape Coral. Virginia Ranks High in Walkability; Healthcare According to a recent Bankrate survey, while both Arlington and Alexandria are expensive, seniors benefit from Virginia's top-ranked health care system as well as t... Who Wants a Pet-friendly High-rise in Arlington?

With more and more Americans delaying marriage and children, pet ownership is at an all-time high. In fact, 68% of all U.S. households in 2013-2014 claimed at least one pet, according to the American Pet Products Association. Not surprisingly, spending on pet-related products and services hit more than $55 billion the same year. Although the greater DC area offers a plethora of dog parks and other pet-friendly environs, it's sometimes challenging to find developments in Rosslyn, Cl... Read More

Tysons Corner: Roadmap for the Future

Macerich, the owner of the mega-shopping destination, just released plans to complete the buildout of the mall property. The proposal includes three new residential buildings, an office building and 133,045 SF of additional re... Read More

Here's Why Potomac Yard is Hot

Once a desolate part of Alexandria, Virginia, the Potomac Yard neighborhood has been seeing significant revitalization driven in part by its prime location and the promise of a new Metro Station in 2018.  For years, Potomac Yard was one of the busiest railway yards on the East Coast, processing thousands of cars per day.  In the 1980s, the routes changed as many of the railroad companies merged and consolidated, diminishing the need for the facility, which ultimately fell into ...   Barracks Row is a five-block stretch of Eighth Street, SE, in the Eastern Market neighborhood on Capitol Hill that has seen its fortunes dramatically change for the better since the late 1980s and 1990s. Once dismissed as a seedy area to be avoided, Barracks Row is now home to families and an eclectic collection of small, thriving businesses, restaurants, and bars. Here's Why The Dresden in Kalorama Defines Elegance

One of DC's Best Addresses The Dresden in Kalorama is one of those buildings that is so elegant, so refined, that its name must only be whispered in quiet tones. There, you said it -- "The Dres-den." Built at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Kalorama Road in1909, the building boasts one of the most distinctive features of any building in the District -- a "rounded facade" that extends to pie-shaped homes in three of the building's seven levels. Renowned developer, Harry Ward... Read More
